Notes from your President
Ben VanDyke

Hope everyone is having a good winter. The first day of spring is coming soon, and that means it’s getting close to show time. Expo will be held in Lewistown in June with the Angus show beginning at 9:00 on Friday the 20th. Note the change in dates this year. The Yellowstone Classic, held at the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch will be held the next day, Saturday June 21st, see entry form inserted in newsletter.

The National Junior Angus Show will be held in Des Moines, Iowa July 13—19th. I hope we can have many juniors there to show off our great state. John & Pam Patterson will have more information about this event, and we will discuss it further at the Montana Junior Angus meeting on Thursday night at the Expo. We as juniors have a really exciting and fun filled summer coming up. The annual LEAD conference is coming to Montana for the first time ever in early August.

Feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions or comments.

July 13 – 18

Cattle entries must be postmarked by June 1, 2008. The theme is “Christmas in July”, so be thinking about how you want to decorate the state display. We will be needing volunteers for chairing the State Display committee.

New this year will be how we enter the non-cattle contests, Team Sales, Team Fitting, Quiz Bowl and Public Speaking. Due to numerous conflicts and scheduling problems, all contests will need to be entered through the state advisor, before arriving in Des Moines. You will still need to check in or scratch once you get to Des Moines. Be in contact with other Juniors and be prepared to make your team selections early.

Angus Foundation Scholarships

The Angus Foundation will be awarding over $100,000 in scholarships this year. Scholarship applications and guidelines are available at www.angusfoundation.org.

The application deadline is May 1. Contact the Junior Advisors for further details and assistance.

We, as cattlewomen, are the heart of our homes, and we assist equally in the promotion of the great Angus breed. The officers, directors and membership of the auxiliary are the heart of what gets accomplished every month and every year. Thank you to all who take part in this wonderful organization

We are a team working for the betterment of knowledge of the Angus breed, providing opportunities and hope through scholarships to well deserving young men and women pursuing secondary education.

We are a team that sees our young people work hard to prepare a breeding project to be shown at a local fair and when they win at their fair they receive a beautiful Montana Silversmith belt buckle award.

We are a team that promotes the Angus breed by holding the Montana Angus Queen contest every spring. Whom the Angus queen and princesses can represent with responsibility, integrity, honesty, and virtue.

We are a team who tracks the successes of our youth through the Junior Achievement Awards to see them continually rewarded for their efforts.

It is my privilege to be a part of the Montana Angus Auxiliary team. It is my desire to see our organization strengthened and encouraged to continue being a very viable part of many people's lives and to be a blessing to all who participate. Thank you to all who have given of their time and resources to see the Montana Angus Auxiliary pulling for the breed.

Montana Angus Auxiliary President
